In simple words Business Process is an accountable way of communicating information between entities like people, organizations and governments for an anticipated means. Almost all the interactions between these entities that have a legal binding behind them can be classified as business processes e.g. filing of Income tax by an individual or an organization.

Each Business Process has a description that defines the event(s) by which a process starts business logic which decides the sequence of steps that should be executed under different situations and the various finishing states of the process instance. Business processes can be simple or complex depending on the number of Information processing/managing entities involved, nature of information interactions (synchronous/asynchronous) and the time taken for the business process to complete.

A typical business process involves many steps which are of following type:
